From the Author This book is based on both - the theoretical considerations of hydraulic and mechanical performance of the various devices, and on my personal experience of over 30 years of piping design, operation and maintenance. As a lecturer in several institutions for technical education I could feel the lack of the appropriate literature, which could help to understand the working of water and other fluid systems. Several problems, encountered in field, were baffling and therefore I tried to develop theoretical explanations in order to enable the system designers and operators to deal with them better. I hope that this book will help to improve the systems performance, by giving more understanding of the various fluid systems elements and hydraulic events.

About the Author The author is a mechanical engineer, now retired, with over 35 years of field practice in design, installation and maintenance of systems for water distribution, irrigation, and fire fighting. He also served as instructor in extension services for water systems, as member and chairman of several committees of the Israeli Standard Institute, and as lecturer in institutions for technical adult education. He has published several articles on applied hydraulics, and eight books (in Hebrew) on various topics in water and fire fighting installations. He is also the author of several technical dictionaries.
